   Note: if you are eastbound into Tennessee, take I-240 (around the south side of Memphis) instead of I-40 (around the north side of Memphis) and overnight here. Then go east from the center to Germantown Pkwy, go left and head north to I-40 exit 16 thus continuing your journey.

About Memphis

  In our opinion, exit 16-A is the best exit in the Memphis area for an overnight stop if you are east-bound.
  If you are westbound on I-40 or northbound on I-55, you just may find yourself embroiled in the morning rush hour traffic — and it is very bad in Memphis. Of course, you could depart at 6a but you will still find a lot of traffic. An alternative is to spend the night in West Memphis - across the river in Arkansas.
  If you intend to do some touring in Memphis you probably wish to include Beale Street. If you are eastbound, take exit 1-B (exit 1-C if westbound) and head south on US-64 to Beal Street (about 13 blocks counting the streets on your right).
