| Driving across the state of Texas is one, very long, day's drive - somewhere around 800 miles (depending who is doing the measuring, of course). But this is the 'Panhandle'. Depending upon stops, it is about three hours from New Mexico to Oklahoma. But, then, there is Amarillo. Way back when (here we go again) there were two towns in the country where you could get a great steak dinner for a dollar (in the 20th Century!): Amarillo and Las Vegas. Now the coffee can cost more than that! But if you want a really great steak, you have to stop in Amarillo! |
And
there is another great reason. Usually (always in our experience) the
cheapest gasoline within a tank-full of driving is right here in
Amarillo. |
