Crossing
California's Mojave provided continuing vistas of black volcanic rock looking much like scattered piles of
coal, - and an acute shortage of
'pit stops'. From Kingman to Williams you will see the welcome green of
the evergreen-cloaked high country give way to almost barren rock. And
an acute shortage of 'pit stops'. AZ-66, the redesignated US-66, loops north of I-40, through Peach Springs and returns to I-40 at Seligman. A big attraction for history buffs. |
Kingman
has been a major rest stop since before the days of 'Route 66'. A wide
variety of ethnic foods is available, here, and - after the shock of
prices in Needles or Williams - the prices are most welcome. Most of all the traffic you see on US-93 (north) is the Las Vegas coming and going, - almost as bad as I-15 in California! You also get to cross Hoover Dam though most of the good turnouts for viewing have been closed. |
